UK online gambling deposit limits change on 30 September 2026

From 30 September 2026, UK-licensed online gambling operators must present a specific kind of limit as a “deposit limit”. The change is about clarity: customers should be able to distinguish the amount paid into an account from other financial controls such as net-deposit or loss limits.

What a deposit limit must mean

The Gambling Commission says the required deposit limit is a gross limit: it counts the amount a customer deposits over a set period. Withdrawals do not reduce that number. An operator may still offer other kinds of limits, but only the gross version can be labelled simply “deposit limit”.

The required time periods

The accompanying technical-standard response requires operators to offer fixed periods covering 24 hours, seven days and one month. If a customer sets more than one period, the most restrictive applicable limit must control how much more can be deposited.

What happens when the limit is reached

The system must stop further deposits until the defined period restarts or the customer takes action to increase the limit. Increases remain subject to the standard 24-hour cooling-off period. This prevents an immediate limit increase from functioning as an instant top-up.

Why the date moved

The second phase was originally due on 30 June 2026. On 26 May 2026, the Commission extended implementation to the end of September after industry feedback and technical-development needs. It also clarified that the required gross deposit limits use fixed time frames, while additional kinds of financial limit may use fixed or rolling periods.
